One of the most common reasons clients come to me for health coaching is to help them create a healthy weight. It’s one of my favorite projects to take on because what I love most about coaching is helping people make positive and powerful changes in their life, and weight management is a biggie.
Achieving and maintaining a healthy weight is an absolutely vital step towards living a balanced and happy life.
But what I've found is that a healthy weight is not what most people think it is.
Most people think of their healthy weight as a number on the scale, a jean size, or an external state of being. The common assumption is that a healthy weight looks a certain way, and has a certain number attached to it. Even the BMI used so often by the medical industry as a measure of health is based on a ratio of height to weight.
Here’s the catch though: that line of thinking is all wrong. There are loads of strong, fabulously healthy women who are considered overweight according to their BMI and the number on the scale. There are lots of unhealthy, suffering women who have a “healthy weight” according to their BMI and jean size.
Here is the truth of it: a healthy weight has a lot to do with how you feel, not how you look. When you have found your healthy weight, your body supports you at you live the life you want to live.
Let’s bust a couple of myths about your healthy weight right now:
- a healthy weight is not a number
- a healthy weight is not a size
- a healthy weight is not something that can be seen from the outside
So, what is a healthy weight? There are four key components to balance.

4 components of a healthy weight
A HEALTHY WEIGHT IS ONE AT WHICH YOU ARE PHYSICALLY HEALTHY
What food are you actually going to eat? What do you actually like? What tastes good to you? How many meals are you going to eat out? Don't make a bunch of food you aren't going to eat! I see too many people do this, and it's a waste of time and money.
YOU ARE ABLE TO PHYSICALLY DO THE THINGS YOU WANT TO DO
Healthy weight comes down to context. What do you want to physically do with this body of yours? Is your weight holding you back from those activities or lifestyle? If so, you’re not at your healthy weight. Is your weight enabling you to live the life that you want? Great! You are at your healthy weight.
Remember context. The healthy weight for someone who wants to do yoga a few times a week, comfortably stand for hours at a time, go for walks along the water is going to be different than the healthy weight for someone who wants to be a ballerina.
The healthy weight for someone who wants to climb mountains is going to be different than the healthy weight for someone who wants to effortlessly play with their children. The healthy weight for someone who wants to have children might be different than for someone who wants to run marathons.
This means our healthy weight will evolve as our lives evolve. That is okay.
YOU FEEL AT HOME IN YOUR BODY
Being comfortable in your body is an important step towards peace and living an aligned life.
Do you feel sluggish, bloated, fatigued, weighed down, heavy, or lethargic as you move through life? Because you deserve more. You deserve to know the sweetness of your own love. You deserve to be proud of your strength. You deserve a body you can settle into, relax in. You deserve a body that feels like home.
YOU CAN MAINTAIN YOUR WEIGHT WITH {RELATIVE} EASE
This doesn’t have to be hard.
Yes, there will be times you have to say no to things you want to say yes to. There will be times you have to say yes to things you want to say no to. For the most part, there should be ease.
No great deprivation needed to maintain a healthy weight. No great starvation. No fasts. No misery. Just a bit of willpower, perseverance, and patience.
