The Spirit of God, seen descending like a dove upon Him at His baptism, led Him into the wilderness to be tempted of Satan. We all face temptations - I Corinthians 10:13 A. Thus, the temptation encounter was a significant part of Jesus’ complete victory over Satan.

Not only did Satan target Jesus’ faith that He is the Son of God, but also the devil focused on three crucial areas of temptation: (1) physical needs and desires, (2) possessions and power, and (3) pride (see 1 John 2:15, 16 for a similar list) Of course, Satan was and is always deceitful with his temptations.
